Ten Great Years and More World-Class Performance Ahead

A Letter from the President

Network Hardware Resale (NHR) celebrates its 20 year anniversary in 2006, and the company has never been more successful, or the future more exciting, than it is today. As we kick off our second decade, I'd like to share some of our noteworthy accomplishments of the past year and the plans we have for 2006.

Growth was at the forefront in 2005 as NHR's revenues surpassed $100 million. To support our expansion, NHR added industry veterans and seasoned professionals to key management positions in sales, marketing, operations, finance and human resources. Although NHR founders John and Chuck Sheldon retired from their executive posts, they remain a critical force in NHR's leadership as members of company's board of directors.

NHR also greatly expanded and improved its facilities, services and processes in 2005 as part of our continuing efforts to better serve our customers and provide the ultimate in responsiveness, quality and convenience. Our east coast customers now have NHR close by with the addition of a sales office in Hoboken , New Jersey . NHR was awarded GSA approval as a federal government supplier. We also implemented a Six Sigma program that will ensure that we maintain rigorous quality standards and efficient order fulfillment as our operations grow.

We made extensive investments in our Web site to provide a user-friendly experience for our customers. We expanded our product listings and added a Live Chat feature that offers you immediate assistance from NHR representatives online. After placing your order, you can log in to your account to get the status of your shipment anytime, 24 hours a day.

These are just a few of the great strides we made in 2005, and we have much more planned this year. Continue to look for Network Hardware Resale to serve new locations around the globe and expand its offerings to better meet your needs. We plan to open our Asia headquarters by 2007, and we are currently pursuing ISO9000 certification. As we grow, we make sure never to lose sight of the integrity and extraordinary service that has set us apart for ten years.

Thank you for choosing NHR for your networking equipment. We look forward to working with each of you again soon.

Cisco sells memory on a per platform basis, but, in fact, many of the DIMMs and SIMMs are interchangeable. Knowing when you can swap out these components provides an easy way to trim costs.

8 Ways to Mix and Match Memory

  • Cisco1700 DRAM can be used in the Cisco2600XM platform and vice versa. It is important to note that 1720s will recognize no more than 32MB of DRAM.
  • Cisco3620 16MB DRAM is interchangeable with the 3640.
  • NPE-300 DRAM also works in the NPE-225 and the NSE-1. The NPE-300 also supports a single 256MB DIMM in the second slot from the left.
  • NPE-200 DRAM is compatible with the NPE-100 and 150.
  • WS-X6K-SUP1-2GE, WS-X6K-SUP1A-2GE and the WS-X6K-SUP1-PFC DRAM is compatible with the WS-F6K-MSFC.
  • WS-X6K-SUP2-2GE, WS-X6K-SUP2-PFC2 and the WS-X6K-SUP2-MSFC2 DRAM all interchangeable.
  • RSP4 DRAM is interchangeable with GRP/LC (engine 0, 1 and GRP, GRP-B) and RSP8 DRAM.
  • The GRP-B is upgradable to 512MB DRAM, but the (2) 256MB DIMMs are not supported in the GRP, RSP4 or RSP8 due to their ECC capabilities.

Chris Crotteau
Sales Engineer

Chris Crotteau is a senior member of Network Hardware Resale's technical support and engineering organization. He works with account managers to provide customers with pre- and post-sale technical assistance.

Support Before and After the Sale
"Our approach is to get it right the first time," explains Crotteau. "I'm here to provide our customers with answers to their technical questions to ensure that they receive equipment that will work in their environment and meet their needs."

When customers do have questions after receiving their equipment, Chris is also available to assist in troubleshooting. He helps Network Hardware Resale customers with minor configuration questions and diagnosing software or hardware issues during and after installation.

Sometimes You Need Real-World Experience
A leading financial services company met Chris after running into trouble with the supervisor engines on their recent order of Cisco Catalyst 6500s. Since this equipment was covered under their SMARTnet warranty, they called Cisco Technical Assistance Center (TAC.) After hours on the phone, Cisco technical support declared the supervisor engines damaged and recommended replacement.

The customer immediately called Network Hardware Resale to arrange replacement of what they believed to be defective parts. Their account representative put their lead engineer in touch with Chris. Chris quickly diagnosed a problem with the ROM Monitor software -- software that initializes the router and then passes control to the Cisco IOS XR software during normal startup. Chris walked the customer through a simple fix, and after just 15 minutes on the phone, their 6500s were working flawlessly.

"Chris's extensive knowledge of networking equipment and real-world troubleshooting skills are invaluable to our customers," said Sam Chesluk, Network Hardware Resale account manager. "In this case, his quick diagnosis and resolution saved my customer the unnecessary frustration and delay of replacing equipment that was not actually defective."

NHR's Cisco-Certified Technical Support
Crotteau is a graduate of the University of California Berkeley with a degree in mechanical engineering. He has six years of experience in IT, spanning PC repair, technical support and corporate network administration. He has earned CCNA and CCDA credentials and is currently a candidate for CCNP certification.

If you would like to speak with Chris Crotteau for technical assistant, ask your account executive to set up a technical call.
